Amida 4200 vs iPAQ rx1710

In General on April 26, 2005 by Sid

While the spec’s of the Amida Simputer model 4200 and those of the HP iPAQ model rx1710 are quite similar, I find that the prices of both the devices on the other hand are vastly different, and the HP iPAQ rx1710 is cheaper by around 6431.00 INR.

HP iPAQ rx1710 has a 203 MHz processor with a 32 MB RAM and a 64K color display, while Amida Simputer 4200 has the same amount of RAM and the same display resolution, but a 206 MHz processor. Other goodies like infra-red connectivity, serial port, USB support, integrated speaker and microphone are also available in both.

Now, the HP iPAQ rx1710 is selling for 13519.00 INR at Indiatimes-Shopping, while Amida is selling Amida Simputer 4200 for 19950 INR. That’s a difference of 6431 INR!

I had been quite impressed with the whole logic and vision behind building the Simputer, as you can see here, here and here, but this finding has been a bit of an eye-opener for me.
